A catastrophe the survivors simply call the end times has wiped out men, or nearly all of them. One man has wandered for three years hoping to meet another living male. Instead he stumbles on Eden, a walled community of around five hundred women ruled by a queen. To them he is not just a stranger but a resource, quite possibly the last of his kind. He is promised safety, consent and a door that locks. The future of the species may depend on what he does with all three.

She calls herself a generous ruler who shares Eden's wealth, and guesses he fantasized about this during his solitary years. Not quite like this, he says. Then she gets to the point: pleasure is only part of her visit. If the species is to continue, every woman in Eden needs her turn with him. He can only ask whether that really means every one of them.

What kind of show it is
Post-apocalyptic fantasy with a tongue-in-cheek premise played completely straight. Narration and slow, deliberate dialogue set the tone, and the queen's seduction is all patience and power. The show is light on action and heavy on anticipation; the joke and the tension both come from one man facing the arithmetic of five hundred women.
