Before episode 1
Colette works the counter at a coffee shop with a reputation, at least according to one bitter customer: the women there flirt for tips and leave men poorer. She is also dating the protagonist's father. That has not stopped her from noticing the son, or him from noticing her. Nothing has happened between them yet. All it would take is a hot afternoon, a chance meeting on the street and a father who is out for hours. The question is whether either of them still wants to pretend.
The people in it
- Colette: A barista dating his father, cool with pushy customers and noticeably warmer with him.
- The son: Her boyfriend's son, caught out in the heat, who confesses he would pursue her if she were single.
- The big tipper: A customer who thinks a generous tip buys a phone number, then warns other men off the shop.
The two free episodes
Episode 1Free, no account
Words are scarce in this opener, so every line carries weight. The setting is a coffee counter. Milk gets offered, the fridge gets a mention, and the offer is politely declined. Then the card reader takes over the scene. A customer's tip is apparently too big for the machine to accept, a limit that gets announced and then teasingly questioned, as if someone might find a way around it. A long, loaded silence follows. When the talk returns, it concedes the point: the machine really won't take it. The oversized tip goes nowhere, the flirting stays unspoken, and the episode closes on that deliberate anticlimax, leaving the next one to explain who everyone is.
Episode 2Free with a free account
Off the clock, Colette gets cornered by a customer who wants her number and reminds her he tipped. The tip bought a smile, she informs him, nothing more. He then warns the next guy he sees, the son, to avoid that coffee shop: the women there are experts at emptying wallets, as every man learns. The son files him under weirdo. A familiar car pulls up. Colette teases him about his fitness kick, jokes about ditching the day's stalker, and hears him admit he would chase her too if she weren't with his dad. The heat, she claims, makes pretending pointless: she liked hearing that. She waves him into the car, since his father is gone for hours.
Where the free run stops. Dad is out of the picture for the afternoon, and Colette's invitation hangs in the hot air as the free run stops. Whether the son climbs in, and what Colette has planned if he does, is exactly where the paid episodes take over.
What kind of show it is
Slow-burn tease with a comic edge. The first part is almost wordless, the second is mostly banter, and the heat never gets past suggestion. Colette holds every card; he mostly reacts, a little dazzled and a little guilty, which suits the setup.
