Before episode 1
Mia asked her boyfriend to give her mother a lift home. The weather had other plans: the road won't reopen before dawn, the landline is out, and he is stuck under Ms. Dermot's roof in soaked clothes with no way to reach Mia. Ms. Dermot is a gracious host, offering dry things, a drink, and a seat closer to her. He is polite, nervous, and acutely aware of whose mother she is.
The people in it
- Ms. Dermot: Mia's mother, warm and teasing, who treats a snowed-in night as an opportunity rather than a problem.
- Mia's boyfriend: A polite, bashful guy who drove her mother home and now cannot leave until dawn.
- Mia: Heard about more than seen: she has told her mother he is too timid to make a move.
The two free episodes
Episode 1Free, no account
Snow traps him at the Dermot house after he drives Mia's mother home as a favor. She tells him the road stays shut until morning and fusses over how frozen he is, urging him out of his wet clothes and handing him a shirt she hopes will fit. She means to phone Mia, but the lines are dead, so the night belongs to the pair of them alone. She offers him a drink and hints the evening has plenty left in it. He asks for tea and thanks her, very formally, calling her Ms. Dermot. When he sits far away, she pats the space beside her and teases him for being nervous about splitting a blanket with his girlfriend's mom. He insists he isn't.
Episode 2Free with a free account
Under the blanket, Ms. Dermot shares what Mia has told her: that he is too bashful to ever take the initiative. He stammers that she is his girlfriend's mother. She observes that he is still staring at her anyway and offers to help with that shyness. He says he shouldn't, and the protest trails off halfway. She asks whether he would like to show Mia she got him wrong. Then Mia calls, and Ms. Dermot leans in with a gentle reminder that nobody ever needs to find out.
Where the free run stops. Nobody has answered Mia's call when the free episodes stop, and her mother is promising total secrecy. Whether he picks up the phone or stays under the blanket is the question the snowstorm leaves behind.
What kind of show it is
Cozy and slow, a tease built on one location and two people. Most of it is talk, with Ms. Dermot doing the pursuing in a soft, motherly register while he blushes and minds his manners. The heat sits in proximity and the off-limits question of who she is, plus a phone that rings at the worst time.
