Dana is one strong week away from a vice president title, and the week is happening at the home of her boss, Marcus Voss. She brings her fiancé, Jake, with one instruction: stay out of the way. Marcus has other ideas. He and his wife, Vanessa, have a tradition with retreat guests that goes back ten years, and this year Vanessa chose Jake before he had even stepped from the car. Saying yes means lying to Dana. Saying no, Marcus claims, costs nothing but a tan.

The rules are announced as three and somehow arrive as four: only when Marcus offers, never in the main house, Jake gets the casita, and Dana never finds out. Dana, booked solid until four, sends Jake off to make friends. Vanessa needs sunscreen and calls it level one. She complains that the interns look right through her, and Jake fumbles a compliment. Sweet is dangerous here, she warns, then asks him to undo a tie before it leaves marks. Then someone calls for Jake.
Where the free run stops. Someone calling Jake's name is the last sound before the unlocked part runs out, with Vanessa's request to untie still hanging and level one only just begun. Who is calling, and will Jake keep playing a game he never formally agreed to?
