Before episode 1
Candy Lane empties of men every workday, eight hours straight, and the wives have a system: raise the flag and help will come. Help, on this street, means the narrator, whose brother is married to Harriet. He fixes pipes, he answers flags, and he has not asked why Harriet's kitchen keeps springing leaks. His brother, by her account, is useless with anything practical. The stakes are family loyalty on one side and a whole street of bored, demanding neighbors on the other.
The people in it
- The narrator: Harriet's brother-in-law and the street's fixer, slow to notice that he is the real job.
- Harriet: His brother's wife, whose kitchen pipe keeps conveniently failing and who has stopped caring what her husband thinks.
- The neighbors: Holly and her companion, greeted as Mrs. Vance and Mrs. Morello, two wives tired of waiting their turn.
The two free episodes
Episode 1Free, no account
A quick tour of Candy Lane lays out the rules: husbands gone all day, and a raised flag is a call for help. First stop: Harriet, his brother's wife. The kitchen pipe is leaking again, which surprises him, since he tightened that fitting himself. She blames it working loose, thanks him and digs at her husband's lack of skill. Under the sink, she mentions his brother asked him to check on her; he says he is always around to help, and she has no doubt. Then the pipe lets go. He blames whoever was holding the flashlight, she complains he soaked her, and a wet patch on his pants becomes a joke at his expense. Sink handled, she says, now it is her turn.
Episode 2Free with a free account
Afterward, Harriet notes her husband would be furious, admits she doesn't care, and tells him to stay put on the floor while she steps away. At the door she finds Holly and another neighbor, asking whether he's done with Harriet yet, since they've waited all morning. Harriet is startled; they explain that each wife on the street gets a turn. Fine by Harriet: she invites them in to share. He wanders out to report the leak is holding and stops mid-sentence, greeting Mrs. Vance and Mrs. Morello with a gulp. They hate waiting and note he's had his warm-up. Harriet claims first go while the others watch, and after that he answers to all three.
Where the free run stops. Three wives, one house and a clear running order mark the end of the free stretch: Harriet first with an audience of two, then everyone together. Whether the narrator survives the morning, and whether his brother ever hears about it, is left hanging.
What kind of show it is
Suburban farce with a wink. The setup is pure sitcom (flags, pipes, a street full of restless wives), and the pace speeds up once the neighbors arrive. Talk and heat run about even. The dynamic is set early: the women make the plans, and the handyman simply shows up when the flag goes up.
