Before episode 1
Kayla volunteers her boyfriend as her mom's ride home, a forty-minute trip that should be routine. Her mom has other ideas. She is married, her husband seems to live at the office, and she clearly enjoys flirting with a man who notices her. Her car happens to be out of commission for days, which means more rides, and the boyfriend has to decide how much he is willing to keep from Kayla.
The people in it
- The boyfriend: Kayla's partner, usually a gentleman and increasingly unsure about the exceptions.
- Kayla's mom: A married woman who flirts openly from the passenger seat and wants regular rides.
- Kayla: The girlfriend, busy with work and trusting enough to hand her mom off for the drive.
The two free episodes
Episode 1Free, no account
Forty minutes, he reminds himself, as he sets off with Kayla's mom. She starts right away, praising him as her knight and calling him a perfect gentleman. He says he is, usually, which only invites the obvious follow-up. She catches him glancing at her neckline and points out she put it on display for a reason. Kayla calls to ask if her mom is chatting his ear off; her mom answers for him, praising his listening skills, and Kayla asks for a text once she is home. He admits the drive flew by. She says it does not have to end, then adds that her car will be in for repairs all week: could he collect her after work the next day? And keep it from Kayla.
Episode 2Free with a free account
Six sharp, and she is already standing outside her office. She tells him to leave the engine running. Kayla, she says, has mentioned how busy she is, and the two of them hardly see each other. He defends Kayla as a hard worker; her mom replies that a man needs more attention than that. Her husband calls to say he is running late at work, again. She tells him to take his time, she has plenty to occupy her, and they trade I love yous. When the boyfriend asks about the husband, she says he is irrelevant if the answer is yes, that Kayla never needs to find out, and invites him inside.
Where the free run stops. Her front door, invitation hanging in the air, is as far as the free episodes go. Does he follow her in, and can the arrangement stay hidden from Kayla if the rides keep happening? The free part leaves both questions unanswered.
What kind of show it is
Compact and confident, mostly two people in a car. The talk does the work: compliments, a phone call from Kayla, another from the husband, each one raising the stakes. Kayla's mom sets the pace with easy, practiced flirting, and the boyfriend keeps hesitating just long enough to make it tense.
