Before episode 1
It is Jake's first day at the family home of his girlfriend, Chloe. The house runs on one principle: nobody hides anything from anyone. Within ten minutes Jake finds out what that means, courtesy of a shower encounter with Chloe's stepmom, Dana. Chloe never mentioned it, and she also never mentioned a family custom involving her boyfriends and Dana. The stakes are mostly Jake's composure, and whether he can survive a visit where someone else writes the rules.
The people in it
- Jake: Chloe's boyfriend, polite to a fault, utterly unprepared for how open her family is.
- Chloe: His girlfriend, relaxed about the house rules, who brings boyfriends home to meet the family tradition.
- Dana: Chloe's stepmom, unhurried and amused, who sets the rules and enjoys making new boyfriends nervous.
The two free episodes
Episode 1Free, no account
Day one, and Jake's narration admits he learned the house rule within ten minutes. Chloe states it plainly: here, nothing stays hidden. Dana introduces herself as Chloe's stepmom, Jake manages a strangled ma'am, and she tells him to relax, repeating the household motto with a smile. Then she reports to Chloe that she has already met the boyfriend. Chloe begs her not to elaborate; Dana elaborates anyway, naming the shower. Jake protests that a warning would have been nice. Dana's verdict on what she saw is approving, and Chloe agrees with it. Dana is surprised Chloe never filled him in, and beckons him closer.
Episode 2Free with a free account
Chloe asks him not to panic, which, Jake notes, is how panic begins. She explains the family tradition: her, her boyfriends and Dana. Dana promises patience, asks for two minutes and orders him to sit. Chloe tells him to rein in his staring; at whom, he asks, which is the point. Dana lays out rule one, no touching until she allows it, and rule two, if he keeps looking at her like that, rule one is off. Chloe tells him not to be scared; Dana thinks a little fear is part of the custom. A new outfit, chosen by Mom, leaves Jake baffled. He has seen his quota for today, he is told, and must hold perfectly still.
Where the free run stops. Ordered to hold still, Jake reaches the end of the free part while both women clearly enjoy his nerves. What the family tradition involves beyond Dana's two rules is still a mystery at this point.
What kind of show it is
Meet-the-family awkwardness with a cheeky edge. Scenes are short and talky, and the heat is mostly anticipation: rules, countdowns and Jake's wide-eyed reactions. Dana runs the room with calm authority, Chloe treats it all as normal, and Jake is the only one who finds any of this strange.
