Before episode 1
A new nurse has one shift left before her probation ends, and the odds are against her: the head nurse would love to see her fail. The floor is quiet tonight, surgery is winding down, and the chief has been stealing glances at her. He has no interest in spending a dead shift on paperwork, and he has the authority to decide exactly where she works tonight.
The people in it
- The probationary nurse: On her last trial shift, nervous and outspoken, hoping to survive the night and her critics.
- The chief: The senior doctor running the floor, who cancels obligations at will and picks the new nurse.
- Vanessa: A senior nurse, apparently the head nurse, who expects the newcomer to fail and doubts the chief's interest.
The two free episodes
Episode 1Free, no account
The nurse narrates her situation: probation ends tonight, the head nurse would like her gone, and the chief's eyes keep finding her, which she can hardly believe. He observes that the floor will go silent once the operating theater wraps, too good to waste on paperwork. When someone predicts the new nurse won't make it through the shift, the chief claims her for himself and takes her to the only room on the ward where nobody will bother them. She apologizes for scrubs that run one size small; he says they fit perfectly. Vanessa interrupts with a reminder about a board deadline before seven. He cancels it, orders no interruptions, and mutters something about charts. Vanessa can't believe it. He invites the nurse to tell him to stop. She swears.
Episode 2Free with a free account
Her outburst hangs in the air: she has just sworn at her chief, on the final night of her probation, and she is mortified. He tells her he likes it. She says she is nothing like Vanessa, which, he replies, is the whole reason he picked her. Out in the corridor, Vanessa and a colleague speculate. He is probably just showing her the ropes, one says, and the new nurse is a bore anyway. Someone notes they have been in there a long while; the reply is a shrug that she isn't his type. Vanessa calls through the door to ask if the doctor is still inside. The nurse tells him not to stop.
Where the free run stops. Vanessa's voice at the door asking for the doctor, and the nurse begging him not to stop, close the free part. Whether he answers, whether Vanessa walks in, and what this does to her probation all remain open.
What kind of show it is
Hospital workplace drama compressed into minutes: a power imbalance, an envious rival outside, and a door that might open any second. The talk is clipped, and the heat lives in what the chief says and what the nurse fails to refuse. Gossip in the hallway supplies the dry comedy.
