Before episode 1
Riley cannot wait for her boyfriend, Jack, to meet Regina, her stepmom, whom she has not seen in about two years. Regina, long busy, is eager to meet him. Riley is in a great mood: life is hectic, but Jack has been wonderful, the kind of boyfriend who will make a two-hour drive for a coffee delivery. Regina takes one look at Jack and approves, out loud. The reunion turns into dancing, and Riley seems too happy to notice how warmly Regina greets him.
The people in it
- Riley: Jack's bubbly girlfriend, eager for her stepmom's approval and quick to sing her boyfriend's praises.
- Jack: Riley's sleepy, agreeable boyfriend, who becomes the center of far more attention than he bargained for.
- Regina: Riley's stepmom, finally free to meet the boyfriend and far more taken with him than anyone expected.
The two free episodes
Episode 1Free, no account
An I-told-you-so gets Jack out of bed: Riley warned him he would oversleep, and he groans that he hates her right now. She tries on an outfit and asks for an honest verdict; after a second look, it is ruled unfit to wear outside. Riley is sure her stepmom will love him. It has been two years since she saw Regina. The reunion is pure gushing on both sides. Regina greets Jack by name, says she had no idea Riley's boyfriend was this good-looking, and admires his strength. Riley rattles off how hectic life has been, then turns it into a tribute to Jack: the two-hour coffee run, how good he has been lately. Then she calls for dancing.
Episode 2Free with a free account
The dancing gets going, with cheers for Regina. Then something goes wrong: a frantic apology, an angry outburst about the damage, and the discovery that whatever spilled has ended up all over Regina. She turns to Jack and asks him to help her deal with it. Jack stalls, tripping over a question about exactly what she wants him to do. He never finishes it. Someone walks in on the pair, startled to find them there, and the episode slams shut on a sharp demand to know where somebody thinks they are going.
Where the free run stops. Regina still needs help, Jack is stuck in the middle, and a third party has turned up: that is where the unlocked episodes stop. Who it was, who is leaving, and how much anyone saw are the questions left behind.
What kind of show it is
Bright, chatty and slightly chaotic, with Riley's nonstop enthusiasm doing most of the talking and Regina's interest in Jack doing most of the work. In the free part the heat stays at the level of flirting and accidents, and the comedy comes from how oblivious everyone tries to look.
