Ser Garrick has a sword, ambition and an illegitimate birth that makes the realm's nobles sneer. To be crowned he needs seven lords to kneel; two have, and five openly scorn him. The queen regent has her own candidate in mind. Deep in the forest, during a hunt, a witch who already knows his name offers a shortcut. Her price is not gold, and she insists it is not his soul either.

He vows to win them by the sword. She doubts it, mocks him as a stable hand, then softens and says he has the look of a king. Her offer: come at moonrise, share her bed, yield to her will, and a lord bends the knee by morning. A call from the hunting party pulls him away.

She greets him smugly: men like him always come. He asks her price outright. The terms: a night with her per lord who bows, five nights for the five holdouts, and she wants him, not his soul. And if he refuses? Then Haldan mocks him at the coronation, the queen regent hands the crown to a man she picks, and Garrick remains a mere knight for life. She muses on what men give up for power. His squire reports that the regent's riders are combing the forest for him. Let her look, he says. The witch's final suggestion: misdirect the squire, and tonight he learns the true cost of wearing a crown.
Where the free run stops. The witch has named her terms and proposed a lie for the squire, and Garrick has not said yes. Whether he pays her price, and whether the first lord actually kneels, stays outside the free episodes.

Dark fairy-tale bargaining with more menace than romance: the witch talks in riddles and ultimatums, Garrick in short, proud sentences.
