Before episode 1
Legend says the sunken court swallows every visitor for good, and the man narrating this one soon sees the appeal. He is a thief, and the only thing he wanted down there was a stone. Then the woman who rules the place appears, and the stone stops mattering. She is a goddess with a short temper and a princess with a husband-to-be on the calendar, and she has just caught a mortal trespassing in her garden.
The people in it
- The thief: A mortal burglar caught mid-heist, who trades his survival instinct for open devotion within a day.
- The goddess: Ruler of the sunken court and a princess, she spares the intruder because he stares instead of begging.
- Her betrothed: Never seen, only announced: a summons in his name nearly gets the thief discovered and killed.
The two free episodes
Episode 1Free, no account
The thief starts with the legend and admits one look at the woman who rules the court explained it. He was supposed to keep his attention on the stone. He did not. She catches him in her garden and asks, incredulous, whether a mortal really tried to rob a goddess. His apology arrives as a question, which does not help. Every man who has knelt there, she notes, pleaded for his life, yet he has stayed silent. His defense: thinking straight is hard while looking at her. Most thieves want gold, so what is he really after? He says he is looking at it. She weighs killing him on the spot, then passes a different sentence: he stays, and he belongs to her.
Episode 2Free with a free account
Sparing him, he reflects, was the crueler option: she has kept him. She tells her new possession to enjoy it, then orders him to kneel and learn where he stands. He claims to pick things up quickly. Word arrives that her betrothed wants the princess. She hisses at the thief to stay silent, since discovery means death for both of them. He ought to be terrified, she says; he calls it a work in progress. Anyone who belongs to her, she adds, must learn to satisfy a goddess. He woke up a condemned man and would now trail her anywhere. Her last word: if he wants to live, he will earn it.
Where the free run stops. Survival is now something he has to earn, and that is where the free run leaves him, with her betrothed still expecting her. What earning it involves, and how long a goddess can hide a mortal from the man she is promised to, stays unanswered.
What kind of show it is
Fantasy romance with a power gap wide enough to drive a chariot through: an immortal who issues orders and a mortal who answers them with jokes. Talk carries it, threats and teasing in short volleys, and the heat stays implied but constant. His nerve keeps him alive; her curiosity keeps him around.
